Janet your words are a joy to read. I absolutely cherished growing up on Wilshire. Your writing takes me back to all that wonderful history. It was just a wonderful place to grow up. We were community and connected. My sisters and I still talk about growing up on Wilshire. I picture my childhood home so clearly in my mind's eye. I loved growing up with your family on the same street. What memories.
This piece along with the photos gives me a new appreciation of the complexity and richness of this part of Detroit. I am so glad for the park development along the riverfront since it is so needed in this area. The photos are good but I wonder where all the people are. Maybe it was the time of day. The sunshine makes the area look more welcoming. I like the in depth appreciation of the city rather than some of the more consumer oriented blogs that just tell you what restaurants to go to.
thanks for looking at this Justine. you know, i do find there aren't nearly the people i would expect on the streets. i wish there were a cure for that, because a whole lot more would work in this world if we were just interacting with each other. to be fair, i should tell you that i try to not take pictures of people in case it makes them uncomfortable.
